Spanish Extra Virgin Olive Oil

From Andalucía

—Vibrant & Fruity—

A multi-generational family passion, this organically-farmed oil pairs perfectly with pasta, peppers, and even over yogurt.

  • About this product

    Small-batch. Family-owned. Certified organic.

Introducing the new 2024 harvest from our multi-award winning producer in the Andalucía region of Spain. Situated between Málaga and Sevilla, this family business has completely transformed in just a couple of years under the direction of Marina, whose father's family had been making oil for generations. This special batch was recognised as "The Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Sevilla", taking gold at Ecotrama (the prestigious competition for sustainable olive oils).

    Harvest: November 2024.

    Variety: Hojiblanca, Arbequina, and Koroneiki

    Polyphenols: 661 mg/kg.

    Origin: Pedrera, Sevilla, Andalucía, Spain.

Process: Superior category extra virgin olive oil obtained directly from mechanical (never heat or chemical) means; 0.16% acidity. The olives are milled within *an hour* of being picked in their mobile mill. This oil is filtered.

Agriculture: 350 hectares, organically-farmed with some regenerative practices.

    Soil type: Limestone.

  • Meet the producers

The middle of 3 daughters in a multi-generational olive oil family, Marina set off on a journey to study the technical quality behind producing the best EVOOs.

When she returned home, she discovered her family’s oil just wasn’t good enough.

So she shut it down and started over. From a new mobile milling machine for precision quality to converting the groves organic—she overhauled everything.

And as a result, she turned her family business from just another Spain olive oil into something *extra* and outstanding—scooping up awards and recognition in just a couple of years.

  • Taste & pair

Nose: Vine tomato, fresh-cut grass, black pepper.

Palate: Fresh with a medium bitterness and a striking pepperiness.

Pairings: Pour over pastas and rice dishes. Shake it up on salads. Put this on peppers. Try it with everything from mango to manchego.

  • Health & nutrition

100% olives from small batches. Nothin' but the juice, baby.

This Spanish olive oil comes in at 661 mg/kg of total polyphenols, which is above the 250 mg/kg benchmark set by EU Regulation (No. 432/2012) about high-polyphenol olive oils.

We open up our independently-verified, lab analysis reports to showcase the oil's quality.

Note: The oil itself is organically farmed, has the EU Leaf marque and is certified organic by Sohiscert in Spain. However, we are in the process of applying for our certification as a business at Citizens of Soil to label this as organic in the UK. At this time, it’s not certified organic in the UK, though it is organically-farmed.

Beautiful - albeit expensive spread

Starting taking this each evening with a spoon with the aim of it to reduce cholesterol- it is quite intense and bitter on its own . Have switched to using this on sourdough as a replacement for butter as it tastes amazing and elevates any sour dough - also great on salads and pasta dishes - with its peppery finish .

Love your oil...

Thanks so much for your beautiful oil. Fresh vibrant flavours and the excitement of real people making oil from their own farms. It's lovely to see the producers story with each delivery. I like the presentation of information and the recyclable packaging. Sending the package back in it's original cardboard box for recycling is excellent.
I am pleased that you support women producers. That is important to me.
Over and above everything though, I love finding the best of things and your oil is certainly that for me.
Thanks

Thank you David for your kind words, we're so pleased you have enjoyed the spanish oil. We're so pleased to have your support on our mission to turn a commodity into a community.

FAQs

  • Is this oil organic?

Our producers all farm organically to the EU standard without any synthetics or chemical "cides". However, as we only work with small farms, some have not yet been certified—which is why we cannot legally label them as “organic”, unless they have the certification.

Many of them, however, are well on their way in the conversion and audit process (it takes a few years), so we hope to share more soon. This year, our core Greek and Spanish EVOO and our Italian Extra Rare are all certified organic, as well as Soil Association certified.

  • Is this cold-pressed?

In short, yes. No heat or chemicals are used to extract our extra virgin olive oils. And we have third-party lab reports open for each oil to showcase that.

However, the term “cold-pressed” is really just a marketing buzzword (particularly when used by other non-olive oils).By legal definition in the EU, extra virgin olive oil must be extracted without any heat or chemicals and only comes from the “first pressing” (more like crushing) of the olives—which is exactly how we make our EVOOs.
